FAQ for people who are starting a physical therapy program.
I want Physical Therapy; do I need a referral from my Doctor?
No Prescription or Doctor’s Referral? No Problem…
- Texas laws provides you with the right to direct access to licensed physical therapists without a physician’s referral or prescription.
- You can get an Immediate consultation with your physical therapist to determine if therapy is needed or if further examination by another healthcare practitioner is warranted.
- You have the freedom to choose a physical therapist as you would an MD, DO, chiropractor, dentist, or other healthcare professional.
- Once we have seen you, we will contact your physician and go over your plan of care with them to assure that they understand what you and your therapist have planned for treatments and goals. We welcome their participation in this process to get you better. You just don’t have to wait to see them before you start getting pain free and healthier!
Does physical therapy hurt?
Many injuries or conditions are painful and it is often uncomfortable to start the essential parts of movement again. Your therapist at CORE is trained on specific pain relief techniques and can help minimize the discomfort as you start getting better. Be sure and let them know your concerns and if any part of the program hurts, let them help you modify your care to help make it better while you progress.
I have had physical therapy in the past and it did not help!
Many PT programs use the “no pain, no gain philosophy” or just do modalities like heat
and electrical stimulation in hopes of getting you better. At CORE, we use those and other more advanced pain relief techniques while helping you with an “Activity based program” for optimal benefits. Many of our techniques like stretching SHOULD NOT HURT to work properly in your program.
We can help you, but your body is the only thing that can heal.
With our help, we can lay out programs with you that will encourage your body and it’s healing processes to get back to normal and to a more optimal health quicker and safer. We meet with you every treatment and continually assess your program and progress to make sure that you are improving appropriately.
What locations does CORE provide services at?
CORE has multiple opportunities available to help patients in all settings!
Outpatient Physical Therapy in one of our multiple clinics:
We have facilities in Longview, Lone Star, Marshall and Jefferson. These clinics are open at least three days a week with time schedules available to meet most needs. This allows you to be face-to-face with your physical therapist and with a traditional hands-on approach. This type of care is often optimal for many types of problems. CORE works with many ride transportation services and medical transportation services and can help work your schedule around your transportation needs.
Does CORE offer services for home-bound patients?
Physical therapy through Home Health: We work closely with PrimeCare Home Health and the nursing staff. If you qualify for home health services, You can get the same excellent care that you would get in any one of our outpatient therapy centers but delivered to your home. Although there are specific rules that you must meet, this is an excellent way to get therapy services that come to you.
Does CORE offer therapy services via telehealth?
Telemedicine Physical Therapy: Due to the onset of COVID-19, CORE also offers
telemedicine physical therapy services over your computer, tablet or smartphone. All you need is one of those and access to the internet. We can schedule and perform an initial evaluation or treatment for you in your chosen space. Many physical therapy treatment aspects lend themselves very well to telemedicine. Others are less optimal and your therapist may reach out to you to do a limited number of hands-on visits to get you the most optimal response. However, we can do an excellent job with most all portions of your care and the choice of whether or not to have a hands-on treatment or technique is always up to you.
Outpatient Physical Therapy in your Home: Many individuals may want to do a more
personal hands-on therapy course but are unable to attend one of our clinics and do not qualify for traditional home health. In these cases, we do have a limited ability to provide outpatient physical therapy in your home environment. This involves most all the aspects of outpatient physical therapy but are provided in your home similar to Home Health. This care is provided by the same therapists and staff that would see you in a traditional in clinic setting. If you need this course of treatment, please check with us to see if it is available in your area.
What precautions does CORE provide against COVID-19?
We understand and we have many patients that are concerned about this pandemic. CORE sanitizes their clinical settings and all the equipment used are sanitized before
and after each patient. All therapists and staff in all settings wears a mask during patient care. All staff have their temperature checked several times daily to ensure optimal health and safety of our staff and patients. For those that wish for the safety and security of their own home environment, we do offer Telemedicine physical therapy visits.
All you need is computer, tablet or smartphone and access to the internet. We can

What payment options does CORE offer non-insured patients?
We understand that all medical care is expensive and CORE is willing to work with you
to help meet your needs. Most of the cost to you in your medical care is dictated to you by your particular insurance company.
We will lay out options with you and show you what optimal care we can provide to
work within your financial needs. These options may include decreased frequencies, use of telemedicine services and other cost saving options for your consideration and choices. Some services do not have co-pays during this COVID-19 crisis and other services have reduce costs as well. As always, we will help you in any way we can to meet your needs and get you the care that you need to get better.
