Biodex Balance System
Did you know that one third of older adults will fall each year and that number increases substantially with advancing age?
Balance is a state in which a body or object remains reasonably steady in a particular position while resting on a base that is narrow or small relative to its other dimensions. For human beings, this most commonly involves remaining upright and steady on the feet.
Modifiable fall risk factors include:
- Muscle weakness
- Gait and balance problems
- Poor vision
- Psychoactive medications
- Home hazards
The Centre of Rehabilitation Excellence (CORE) utilizes the Biodex Balance System for patients with a number of common diagnoses including fall risk in older adults as well as sports/orthopedics injuries, ankle sprains and fractures, amputation and joint replacement. In addition, the system is useful in treatment of movement and neurological disorders including stroke, head injury, Parkinson’s disease, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, balance/coordination/postural weaknesses and cerebral palsy.
If you or a loved one has experienced recent balance difficulties, please call and speak with one of our licensed staff. Please call (903)753-6635 or stop by our clinic to schedule an appointment time or to find out when our next free screening will be taking place.
